IT’S TIME TO

SIARGAO IS MORE THAN A DESTINATION

At La Luna Villa, we honour the island’s culture, people, and rhythm. We believe in slow travel, conscious connection, and supporting the communities that make Siargao the vibrant, generous place we love.

We partner with Siargaonon guides, artisans, and organizations dedicated to preserving the island’s heritage and natural beauty. We’ve also shared our favorite food spots so your taste buds can explore local flavors and the progressive Filipino food scene. Through them, we invite you to experience Siargao not just as a visitor, but as a guest welcomed with care.

LOCAL WORDS TO CARRY WITH YOU

Siargaonon is the local dialect spoken across the island. Using even a few words is a meaningful gesture of respect, one that often brings a smile and creates a warm sense of connection. Here are a few simple phrases to help you greet, thank, and interact with the community in a way that honours the culture.

PURPOSEFUL MISSIONS

CULTURAL PRESERVATION & COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT

Siargao Island Peoples Association Inc. (SIPA) is a local, community-led non-profit rooted in the island’s ancestral heritage. Made up of elders, cultural workers, artisans, women leaders, and youth advocates, SIPA exists to preserve Siargao’s living traditions, strengthen cultural identity, and protect the environment through culture-based programs and livelihoods.

Their work spans youth arts and music workshops, engagement with elders, support for local artisans, environmental clean-ups, and the long-term creation of Bayay Nan Kultura; a “living” cultural home and School of Living Traditions where stories, crafts, music, foodways, and ecological knowledge are shared across generations. At their core, SIPA stands for a Siargao where culture, community, and the island itself are cared for together, led by Siargaonons.

OCEAN TRIBE, THE GUARDIAN OF REEFS

Ocean Tribe PH is a vibrant volunteer-driven collective in the Philippines that combines community engagement with environmental stewardship. Through creative events blending live music, skits, food, and raffles, they raise support for marine conservation, particularly by installing mooring lines to safeguard coral reefs from anchor damage.

They also offer diving experiences and SSI certifications, inviting both beginners and certified divers to explore Siargao’s underwater world while contributing to reef preservation.

NURTURING MINDS @ BAYBAYIN LIBRARY

Baybayin Library, an NPO, opened on February 15, 2022 as the first library in Siargao, a free space created for the community. Since then, it has welcomed children and teenagers every day, offering a place to read, learn, study, and dream.

With over 100 free workshops each year, our mission is to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and awareness, while empowering the next generation. Baybayin Library is more than books; it is a sanctuary of hope, learning, and community.

ISLAND FLAVORS WE LOVE

BREAKFAST DONE PROPERLY @ WEEKEND IAO

Weekend IAO is an all-day brekkie and specialty coffee café tucked near Cloud 9, known on the island for colourful plates, strong coffee, and easygoing weekend energy. From classic silog-style Filipino breakfasts to lighter continental options and baked treats, it’s the kind of place locals send their friends when they ask, “Where should I eat first in Siargao?”

They’re also the team behind La Luna Villa’s breakfast menu; designing and preparing the same thoughtful meals our guests enjoy each morning, paired with simple, fresh sides (and our in-villa coffee). For us, it’s a natural fit: a kitchen that cares about flavour, consistency, and the unhurried feeling of starting the day well on the island.

THE PERFECT ISLAND BBQ WITH A CAUSE

Catangnan BBQ is a no-frills, very local-style eatery in Catangnan, known for smoky Filipino barbecue, cold drinks, and that unmistakable roadside Siargao atmosphere. Skewers are simple, generous, and full of classic flavours locals grew up with, best eaten with rice, sawsawan, and a bit of island chaos around you.

What makes this place especially special is the team: more than half of their staff are deaf or mute, proudly employed and supported by Siargaonon owners who built Catangnan BBQ from the ground up. Ordering here is its own quiet exchange of gestures, smiles, and practiced systems; a reminder that inclusion can be woven into everyday spaces, one plate of barbecue at a time.

COLD COCONUT BREAK

Coco Frio is the town’s favourite humble coconut stand on Tourism Road in General Luna; a small open-air spot with low plastic chairs, close to the street and close to the everyday life of Siargao. Here it’s all about the locally harvested coconuts: ice-cold buko, simple coco shakes, coconut ice cream, and coffee with a coconut twist.

It’s the kind of place you pass often and eventually can’t resist: surfers stopping in after a session, kids sharing cups of coco shake, tricycles rolling by as you sit almost at road level. Nothing fancy, just good coconuts, fair prices, and a small team that remembers faces. For La Luna guests, Coco Frio is an easy, very local pause between the heat, the waves, and the ride back to the villa. 🌴

PROGRESSIVE BUT ISLAND AT HEART

Wild Siargao is a progressive Filipino restaurant on Back Road in General Luna, known for giving classic flavours a modern, quietly playful twist. Think tuna carpaccio, porchetta kare-kare, octopus carpaccio, and dishes built around local produce, served in a warm, low-lit space that feels more like a dinner with friends than a formal restaurant.

Co-founded by a team of chef-owners with deep experience and a soft spot for Siargao, Wild has also become a gathering place for the island’s culinary community; hosting kitchen takeovers and collaborations that support other local chefs and keep the food conversation moving forward.
