SIARGAO

THE ESSENCE OF

AT A GLANCE

Known as the Surfing Capital of the Philippines, Siargao is home to the world-renowned Cloud 9 surf break, in Catangnan, where international competitions are held each September.

Often called the Coconut Capital of the Philippines, Siargao is draped in endless palm groves and iconic coconut roads.

Its waters are among the most biodiverse in the country, with coral reefs, mangrove forests, and hidden lagoons waiting to be explored.

Sugba Lagoon, spanning nearly 4,000 hectares, is one of Siargao’s natural treasures, offering turquoise waters framed by limestone cliffs.

The Magpupungko Rock Pools reveal themselves only at low tide, forming crystal-clear natural swimming basins.

While General Luna is the lively hub of cafés, yoga studios, and nightlife, the island retains a serene village atmosphere and slow-living rhythm.

Siargao has been a pioneer in eco-conscious practices, with an early ban on single-use plastics and strong community-driven sustainability efforts.

GETTING HERE
WHEN TO VISIT

Surf Season: September–November (Cloud 9 International Surfing Cup + world-class waves).

Dry Season: March–May (best for island-hopping, lagoons, and calm seas), although we do experience rain from time to time.

Year-Round: Tropical, warm, and welcoming with June to October bringing occasional heavy and light rains.

GOING AROUND

The island is best explored on motorbike/scooter as its affordable and flexible for adventure but cars are also available for rent. If you're not a confident driver, please inform our staff. Do not risk injuries.

Public tricycles (local tuk-tuks) are also available 24 hours a day and may be hailed from any street; fares vary between day and night.

To ensure ease and comfort, the La Luna Villa Concierge Team can assist with motorbike rentals, private transfers, guided tours, and advice on local fares.

TRAVEL TIPS

Community Respect: While General Luna’s Tourism Road is vibrant and lively, much of Siargao remains a close-knit local community. Families, children, and fishermen share this space daily. Treat everyone with respect, kindness, and humility; remembering that you are a guest on their land.

Sustainability: Help preserve Siargao’s natural beauty by avoiding single-use plastics and practicing proper waste segregation wherever possible. Respect the ocean by using reef-safe, eco-friendly sunscreen, never touching or stepping on coral reefs, and leaving marine life undisturbed. Every mindful action contributes to protecting the island’s fragile ecosystem for future generations.

Electricity: Siargao is a small island with limited infrastructure, and power outages are common, sometimes lasting several days. At La Luna Villa, you won’t experience these blackouts — our property is fully off-grid and solar-powered, provided guests practice mindful load management.

Money: Bring sufficient cash, as ATMs are limited and card machines can often be unreliable.

Essentials: Pack eco-friendly sunscreen and insect repellent to protect both yourself and the island.

Climate & Clothing: The island is warm and humid year-round. Light, breathable clothing is ideal, with a light jacket or poncho for tropical rain showers.

ADVENTURE, CULTURE
& WELLNESS

Siargao, locally dubbed as IAO, is more than a surf destination - it’s an island that invites you to live in balance. Adventure flows from dawn surf sessions and island-hopping escapes; culture thrives in the warmth of its people, the flavors of its food, and the traditions that shape its villages; mindfulness comes naturally with the rhythm of island life, whether in yoga by the palms, sunset meditation, or simply slowing down. At La Luna Villa, we believe in embracing all three, so every guest can experience Siargao not just as a place, but as a way of living.
